During a short but intense period of time, Can-Am not only won, but dominated the AMA National Motocross and Supercross landscape, beating back the best the Japanese manufacturers had to offer in the racing arena if not in outright production machinery.

Can-Am could not sustain the development pace required during the 1980s motocross boom, the onslaught from Japanese rivals proving too hard to match, with 1987 the last year Can-Am was a real dirtbike manufacturer. However, they pivoted in more recent times into the three wheel segment when they released the Spyder Roadster in 2007 to the present day.

Powered by a three-cylinder, 998 cc Rotax motor, the Spyder Roadster became the original two wheels in the front, one in the back travel machine, a similar layout to a snow mobile, a segment Can-Am is renowned for.

More recently, Can-Am has signaled their intentions to enter the electric motorcycle space for the 2024 model year, with the Can-Am Origin roadster and the all-purpose Can-Am Pulse adventure motorcycle set for production, with more models on the way.
