HIGHLIGHTS
MAIN EVENTS
Cooper Webb dominated the race tonight in Indy. The 450SX points leader grabbed the early holeshot and sprinted away from the rest of the field. He led every lap of the main event and at one point held an 11-second lead over second place. Webb claimed the win and further extended his points lead to 15 over Chase Sexton.

“I was pissed off. I made a lot of mistakes today,” Webb said. “I wanted to go out in the main event and get back on point and I was able to do so. I got a great start and made it happen early and it was a great race for me. I led every lap and was able to just ride my laps. I’m super stoked with how the night finished up.”

Justin Cooper grabbed a career-best second place finish. The Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha rider ran second for most of the race but jumped up a spot once Sexton crashed out of second place. This is Cooper’s best finish of the year and his first podium of the season.

“I stalked Justin [Barcia] for a little bit and was just doing the big rhythms,” said Cooper. “I knew he [Barcia] was struggling in the whoops and he missed the rhythm before the whoops and I got underneath him and was able to get a gap on him from there on out. I was able to just click off my laps and then Chase [Sexton] went down in the sand…I felt like I was not doing anything special out there just hitting my marks and that’s what was important on a track like this.”

Chase Sexton held on for third on the night. The Factory Red Bull KTM rider ran second behind Webb for the majority of the race but crashed in the sand in the closing laps. This mistake allowed Cooper to slip through for second with Sexton claiming the final spot on the box. Sexton loses more points to Webb and now trails by 15.

“After the red cross flag where I had to roll the section it was over after that [Savatgy’s crash],” Sexton said. “Cooper had nine seconds on me so at that point I was just trying to ride my laps and bring it home in second. Obviously I made a mistake in the sand but that was easy to do. Once I got off my rhythm where I was doubling through like a sand track outdoor race I seemed to get deeper into the sand and I was just going too slow and I was going too slow and just fell over.”

Justin Barcia grabbed the holeshot and turned it into his best finish of the year with a fourth. “I wanted that podium, but we’ve got a weekend off, so we’ll grit our teeth and work hard,” said Barcia. “We tried a few things on the bike at Daytona and went the wrong way, but today we went back to our base and changed barely anything, so that’s where we need to stay at. It’s more about me riding hard with the boys during the week now, they’re great riders and it’s really elevating me, so I’m excited for what’s to come!”

Aaron Plessinger rounded out the top five. “That was a really, really good ride,” Plessinger said. “The bike’s feeling awesome and a fifth place on this type of night where I hit the ground, I cannot be mad at that. Especially with how the season has been going…It’s been a wild ride, but we are getting through it and getting better and better.”

Tampa winner Malcolm Stewart won his heat race and later finished sixth in the main event ahead of Ken Roczen and Dylan Ferrandis. Justin Hill and Shane McElrath completed the top 10.

250SX Showdown

“It’s been a while since I’ve even stood on the top step of the podium, only once ever before this one,” Hammaker said. “A third at Daytona was a good confidence boost and to get the momentum rolling. I felt like the win was coming but I didn’t know how soon…It’s been so long since I had my first win and that was my third race ever that I won. This one kind of feels like my first one just with how long it’s been.”

Tom Vialle finished second in the main event, The 1E KTM rider started second behind Hammaker but never managed to get close enough to make a pass for the lead. With another second place finish, Vialle now leads the East Coast points over Anstie.

“I started slow in Tampa and Detroit, then Daytona was a good turning point last weekend,” said Vialle. “I got close to the win and then the same this weekend. I spent the main event behind Seth [Hammaker], and I was trying to catch him, but he was riding good. The track was very tricky tonight, so I am pretty happy with second and we’re right in the championship, which is where we want to be.”

Haiden Deegan rounded out the podium in the East/West Showdown, making him the top finishing West Coast rider on the night. Deegan ran cose to the two leaders but launched off track after the tricky rhythm section. He rejoined the track in third and claimed the final spot on the podium.

“In the main event, I got to third place pretty quickly,” Deegan said. “I was reeling in those guys at the front and then made a pretty crucial mistake where I ended up going over the berm and into the net…“I just had to be smart and ride it in for third,” Deegan added. “The guy that’s second in points on my coast was pretty far back. I just wanted to make some good points, and we did that tonight.”

RJ Hampshire took fourth on the night. “We got a couple of points back toward the championship, which is positive,” said Hampshire. “I had a pretty big crash there in the last qualifier on the last lap, which definitely didn’t help the night. I felt good in the Heat, then had a terrible start in the Main – I think I was around 17th – but passed some good guys and fought my way up to fourth.”

Cole Davies crossed the line in fifth, making him the second-best West Coast finisher. “I ended up going down early in the main event and was way back, but I reset and made my way through the pack the best I could and came back from 17th to fifth. I’m really happy with my riding tonight, but I need to limit the mistakes. I rode one time at The Farm since Arlington because I was super sick the last couple of weeks, so all in all, it was still a really good night for me.”

Jo Shimoda, Max Anstie, Julien Beaumer, Garrett Marchbanks, and Max Vohland rounded out the 250SX top 10.
