In this week’s Throwback we dial back the clock to March of 1979 and land at Daytona International Speedway for the Daytona Supercross.

This photo is from one of the semifinal qualifying races for those riders who did not transfer to the main directly from their heat race. This Paul Schwab photo was early in the Semi where privateer Troy Bradshaw (No. 142) got a great start and was still leading on his Yamaha. Coming up fast behind him was Kawasaki factory rider Jeff Ward (No. 26). “Wardy” was soon to take over and pull away for the Semi win to secure his place in the main event. Other riders visible in the shot are Roger Brown (behind Bradshaw), Fred Vertucci (No. 579), John Reinholt (No. 218), Gary Pustelak (No. 693), John Joyner (No. 87), Joe Gratton (No. 83) and Mike Loeffler (No. 60). This weekend riders will be back on track for the 55th edition of the Daytona Supercross. Stay posted here on Cycle News for coverage.
