Repsol Honda’s Toni Bou made it back-to-back wins in the FIM X-Trial Championship in France, January 18. He came into the French round tied with Jaime Busto at the top of the championship standings but left as the sole leader.
Bou, onboard his Montesa Cota 4RT, completed an impressive first lap, despite receiving a five on the last section that temporarily relegated him to second position. This, however, still allowed him to qualify directly to compete in the final. In the final round, he repeated the triumph of the previous week in Chambery, completing the six zones with seven penalty points in a very tight final, managing to take his second consecutive victory of the season.
“Today was a very careful race, in which we had to be very cautious and not take too many risks from the first lap, because a mistake could leave us behind,” Bou said. “The final was very tight from the start, with Jaime and Adam [Raga] very strong, so they did not make it easy. I’m happy with the work by the team; we were able to turn the situation around after the start we had.”
Busto, on the factory GasGas, was second with 10 marks, three marks behind Bou. Adam Raga was a close third, followed by Benoit Bincaz (Sherco) and Bou’s teammate Gabriel Marcelli.
Bou leads the championship on 55 points, followed by Busto with 50, Raga with 33 and Marcelli and Bincaz tied on 24. CN
