The defending champion, Bolt, dominated the night’s racing, topping Superpole (by two seconds!) and winning all three main races.
The first of three main races, Bolt nailed the holeshot and began to pull away. Although pressured by championship rival Triumph’s Jonny Walker, Bolt controlled the pace from the front to secure his first race win of the night.
The reverse start order for race two saw Bolt set off from row two. Despite staying safe and hanging back early on, it didn’t take the FE 350 rider long to begin picking his way through the field.
With chaos unfolding around him and many riders suffering on the deteriorating track, Bolt rode smoothly and looked in a class of his own to take win number two of the evening.
After getting closed in off the start of the third final, Bolt got down to business and methodically worked his way through the field. Moving up into second place by lap three, Bolt then set about closing down the leader, Walker.
Seizing an opportunity when Walker made a mistake in the rock garden, Bolt surged to the front before extending his advantage to the checkered flag.
“I’m very pleased with how the evening has gone here in Germany,” Bolt said. “I managed to go the whole event without crashing, which is good. Obviously, to take three wins and the Superpole is always the goal, but I’m happy with how I rode tonight as well. Jonny was laying on the pressure in the first race, then Dominik [Olszowy] in the second, but I was able to stay focused and not make any mistakes. Everything is going to plan so far, and the bike is working really, really well.”
Rieju’s Dominik Olszowy had an impressive evening, having three solid finishes, giving him second overall.
Walker was third overall despite crashing out of race two. “I grabbed a handful of front brake and tucked the front, and that was all it took to twist the bike beyond what I could repair myself,” Walker said.
However, a pair of second-place finishes in the other two motos was just enough to get the factory Triumph rider, Walker, on the podium in the overall results.
“I felt good tonight, and I had good pace for sure,” Walker said. “To go from such a strong start to the evening to then DNF isn’t ideal, but to then finish second after all of that, I’m happy with how I bounced back.”
GasGas rider Mitch Brightmore was fourth overall, and Stark Varg rider Eddie Karlsson was fifth overall. Karlsson’s highlight of the night was finishing third in the first moto, giving an electric motorcycle its first podium ever in the SuperEnduro Championship.
American Cooper Abbott had a solid night despite a mistake in the first race that resulted in an 11th-place finish. The Sherco pilot made up for that with solid 5-4 finishes in the second and third motos for seventh overall. Abbott holeshot race two and led for a while before slipping back a few positions.
After his perfect evening of racing, Bolt now heads the championship standings by 22 points over Olszowy, 119-97. Walker is third with 75 points, just two points ahead of Brightmore. Karlsson rounds out the top five with 66 points. CN
