Round seven of the AMA Arenacross Championship was held in Guthrie, Oklahoma, on January 25, where racers were treated to the largest track layout of the season. Points leader Vince Friese again claimed the overall win after two main events and further extended his lead to 17 over second place Michael Hicks.
Friese opted out of the Anaheim 2 Supercross to defend his red plate in the AMA Arenacross series. The MotoConcepts Honda rider is a newcomer to the series, but his aggressive riding style has played in his favor so far this season. Guthrie’s longer layout suited the opening podium as all three riders put their supercross experience to use. Michael Hicks claimed the opening win before doing double duty in the X Pro electric class. Ryan Breece, Friese’s MCR teammate, took a close second in the first main despite riding with an injured ACL in his knee. Friese kept things interesting and took third to start the night.
He then rebounded in main event two and put his Honda into the lead by lap three. From there it was smooth sailing for the points leader as he opened up a four-second lead over Breece on the 45-second track. Friese cruised to the win while Hicks struggled to crack the top three. A 3-1 earned Friese the overall win and further extended his points lead. Breece’s pair of seconds gave him second overall for the night. Hicks’ 1-4 put him third overall and saw him lose valuable points to Friese. Austin Politelli held on for third in main number two but claimed fourth on the night with 4-3 results. CN
