Aleix Espargaro has officially joined the Lidl-Trek professional cycling team, marking the conclusion of his full-time MotoGP career. Espargaro will step into his new role as an ambassador for Lidl-Trek beginning January 1, 2025.
In addition to his ambassadorial duties, Espargaro will represent Lidl-Trek at several of the sport’s most prestigious events. “I’m thrilled to be part of the Lidl-Trek family, a team that includes some of the best cyclists in the world,” Espargaro said. “I look forward to learning from top riders and staff, pushing my limits, and sharing this journey with fans.”
A lifelong cycling enthusiast, Espargaro explained that he made the decision to retire from full-time MotoGP racing earlier than anticipated to pursue this new opportunity. “Cycling has always been a passion of mine, and stepping away from MotoGP to join a team that aligns with my interests felt like the right choice,” he shared. “I’m incredibly grateful to Lidl-Trek for welcoming me into their family and supporting me. I’ll give it everything I’ve got.”
Espargaro had earlier announced his retirement from full-time MotoGP at his home Grand Prix in Catalunya. Alongside his Lidl-Trek commitments, he has also taken on a new testing role for HRC’s MotoGP project—a position he began at last month’s official test in Barcelona following the Solidarity Grand Prix, which closed the MotoGP season.CN
