Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Billy Bolt emerged as the overall winner at round one of the 2024-25 FIM SuperEnduro World Championship in Poland on December 14. He claimed the top spot in SuperPole and achieved two victories from three races held at the PreZero Arena in Gliwice, concluding the event with a four-point lead in the championship standings.
Bolt kicked off his SuperEnduro title defense strongly. After clocking the fastest qualifying time, the Brit secured a decisive victory in the SuperPole hot lap, earning his initial three championship points of the season.
Race one went perfectly for Bolt. The Brit took the holeshot from the left side of the gates and pulled a one-second lead by lap one. Bolt maintained his consistency, stretching his lead over second-placed Triumph’s Jonny Walker to the checkered flag.
In the reverse-grid race two, Bolt avoided trouble during the first half of lap one, gradually working his way through the field. By the end of the second lap, he moved up to second place and began to close in on the leader. A few minor mistakes and falls caused Bolt to lose time, and despite giving his all, he couldn’t recover the positions he lost. Crossing the line in fourth, Bolt secured 13 valuable championship points.
Bolt’s third race mirrored the first. After securing his second holeshot of the evening, Bolt extended his lead all the way to the finish. His flawless performance earned him a second race win and the overall victory.
“I’ve got to be happy to take the win here in Poland, especially in front of such a fantastic crowd, but it’s definitely not all gone my own way,” Bolt said. “SuperPole went well, and then going into race one, I felt good and was able to take the win. In race two, I took my time early on, but after that, I pushed too hard to get out front and made some mistakes. Coming off the side of the track didn’t help, especially with how slippery the concrete is here in Poland, but thankfully, I was able to fight my way back to fourth. Entering race three, the points were tight for the overall, so the goal was clear—get out front and just manage my pace to the finish. Everything went perfectly; I was able to take the race win and the overall. It feels good to open my season with a victory.”
Rieju’s Dominik Olszowy finished a close second overall. Urged on by the home crowd, Olszowy was a model of consistency, finishing on the podium in all three races, including a win in race two. He was very much in contention for the overall win going into the final race of the night. A win would have certainly given him that chance, but a second to Bolt wasn’t enough, and he finished out the evening second overall, four points behind Bolt.
Walker got on the podium twice, but the 2022 AMA EnduroCross Champion netted no wins. The factory Triumph-backed rider ended up third on the night.
Ashton Brightmore (GasGas) and Cooper Abbott (Sherco) rounded out the top five overall.
Abbott made a strong impression in Poland. The American went 4-7-6 and demonstrated that he can go head-to-head with SuperEnduro’s top riders.
Electric motorcycles made their first SuperEnduro appearance alongside combustion bikes. After a year-long break, Taddy Blazusiak (Stark Varg) was cleared to compete, but due to certain restrictions, his performance was less fortunate than expected, leaving his home fans hoping for more. He was eighth in the first race, DNF’d the second race after two laps, and did not start the third race. However, Eddie Karlsson of Sweden impressed with a strong result in SuperPole and consistent performances in the three finals. The Stark Varg-mounted rider was sixth overall.
Now, holding a four-point advantage at the top of the series standings, Bolt shifts his focus to round two in Riesa, Germany, on January 4, 2025.CN
