Dave Mungenast was the Top Triumph Team Rider
In this week’s Throwback we travel back 51 years to 1973. That year America was hosting the prestigious International Six-Days Trials (ISDT) contest for the first time. One of the factory team squads entered in the event, held that year in New England’s Berkshire Mountains, was the American Triumph ISDT team: all riding the new TR5T “Trophy Trail” 500 Twins. The team finished in a tie for high point manufacturers team title in the six rounds of the AMA qualifying held in Texas, Missouri, Oregon, California, and Ohio. Team members included John Greenrose (9), Jeffersonville, Indiana; Frank Diaz (13), San Pablo, California; Ken Harvey (20), Richmond, California; and Dave Mungenast (16), St. Louis, Missouri. Harvey was top medal winner on the team in the qualifying series, but in the ISDT it was Mungenast finishing as the top rider of the four American Triumph Team riders. Mungenast was 7th in his class (1300cc), earning a Silver medal. Greenrose also earned a Silver.
