Vision Wheel M4 Ecstar Suzuki’s Ben Fox has died following injuries sustained in a one-wheel skateboard accident in Colorado Springs.
The crew chief to current team rider Brandon Paasch, Fox was riding the one-wheeled skateboard around 2:00 am on Sunday, October 6, when he was involved in a collision with a motorcyclist.
He is survived by his girlfriend, Kim McIntyre; his parents Alex and Debra Downs; daughters Sydney and Evelyn Fox; son John Fox; and ex-wife Sonya Wilde.
Fox was a well-liked and respected member of the international racing community, having crewed for many different riders and teams in MotoAmerica, WorldSBK, British Superbike, and even the Chinese Superbike Championship with former Endurance World Champion, Australian Alex Cudlin.
“Really sad to read of the passing of American motorcycle engineer Ben Fox after a horrible skateboard accident,” Cudlin wrote on Facebook. “Ben was my crew chief when I raced in the Chinese Superbike Championship with Kawasaki in 2017. He flew in from USA to set the bike up, and I flew in from Australia to race the bike. Together we worked to get the bike into a winning machine.
“Ben was a whizz with motorcycle tuning and electronics and more than that, a really nice bloke and always great fun to be around. Without Ben on the spanners that year, we wouldn’t have achieved the podium as much as we did.”
MotoAmerica King of The Baggers rider James Rispoli took to Instagram, saying, “Damn, this one really hits home. F**k we had some fun. Thank you for your undeniable belief. Thank you for everything you taught me.”
Fellow MotoAmerica star Bobby Fong wrote, “We had a lot of good memories together, buddy. I’m glad we got to have a good catch up at New Jersey. I didn’t know it would be our last time laughing and seeing each other. You’re going to be missed, my friend.”
