After going 6-2 for fourth overall at the previous round at Ironman Raceway, Florida rider Jordan Jarvis (Yamaha) used her sand-riding skills to throw a wrench in the works for the series standings by dominating the sandy Baja Brawl at Baja Acres in Millington, Michigan, round six of the Women’s Pro Motocross Championship (WMX), on September 2. She went 1-1 for the overall win.

Both of Jarvis’ motos were nearly identical, as she started within the top three and quickly moved into the lead in each race, which she held until the finish. However, 17-year-old Lachlan Turner (Yamaha) gave her a run for the money in the first moto, hassling Jarvis on every lap and pulling alongside on several occasions.
Second overall went to Turner with a 2-3 performance, her second runner-up finish in as many weeks. Turner battled with Jarvis in moto one, finishing second ahead of Kawasaki rider Sophie Phelps. She then tussled with Stallings in moto two, finishing third to Stalling’s runner-up finish.
Stallings, who came into the race on a roll after going 1-1 at each of the previous two rounds, suffered from a couple of crashes but managed to salvage a 5-2 for third overall.
KTM rider Jamie Astudillo grabbed the holeshot to start the first moto and led for the hectic first lap before Jarvis took the lead. Close behind came Stallings and Turner, who were pushing hard to catch the leader when they came together, and Stallings went down, dropping her to last and allowing Turner to latch onto Jarvis, pushing the GasGas rider to the finish.
“Lachlan came up pretty quick and she was moving this weekend,” said Jarvis. “She was all over me that first moto, but I ride a pretty wide bike, and she couldn’t get around me. She got next to me a couple of times, and we were side by side, but some of the lines she was taking to try and get around me didn’t set her up very well.”
Stallings injured her hand in a crash on the second lap. “Me and Lachlan were fighting for the inside rut and neither of us would let off, and we just ran right into each other,” said Stallings. “I smoked a tree and might have broken my knuckle. I laid there for a long time before I was able to get going again.”
The final eight laps gave Stallings just enough time to work her way back up to fifth at the finish, salvaging valuable championship points. Meanwhile, Jarvis took the win ahead of Turner, Phelps and Jamie Astudillo (KTM).
Stallings got the holeshot in moto two but was soon passed by Jarvis. “I was just trying to pace Jordan the rest of the moto,” said Stallings. “I was keeping an eye behind me because I knew Lachlan would be up there, although I think she might have gone down. I just tried to pace Jordan and sit in that second-place spot to set myself up onto the podium.”
Stallings finished the moto in second, one spot ahead of Turner, giving Stallings a 5-2 for third overall and Turner a 2-3 for third overall.
Phelps finished fourth overall with a 3-4. “I started the first moto in eighth, so I had a couple of positions to make up at the beginning, and it took me a little while because the passing options weren’t great. It was a little bit of a one-line track, so you have to work to set up a pass,” said Phelps. “Towards the end of the race, Kyleigh went down, and I moved into third, but Jordan and Turner were too far ahead to catch by the end of the moto.
“In the second moto, I was stuck behind Jamie for a long time. She was riding fast, and I couldn’t get around her. I think I passed her with a lap and a half to go. Turner went down twice, but she passed us back both times.”
Astudillo was in the mix after getting the early lead in moto one and finishing fourth. In the second moto, the KTM rider continued her great starts by exiting the first turn in third behind Stallings and Jarvis.
“In the first moto, I got off to a third place start right behind Stallings and Jordan, and then Jordan passed me halfway through the first and then Stallings and Turner got around me pretty quickly, so me and Phelps battled for the rest of the moto,” said Astudillo. “It was a tough battle between me and Sophia the whole moto, then Stallings crashed hard halfway through the moto and finished behind me and Phelps. I ended up fourth. I’m not much of a sand rider, so I was pumped.”
Astudillo was fifth in moto two, giving her a 4-5 to round out the top five.
Brianna Scheltema (KTM) went 7-6 for sixth overall, with Piper Bell (KTM) 6-7, Lilyenn Mitchell (Kawasaki) 8-8, Kaitlyn Lane (KTM) 10-9 and Nykea Williams (Yamaha) 9-11 rounding out the top 10.
