Motocross Legend was Entertaining Both on and Off the Track
In this week’s Throwback we dial back the clock to November of 1978 and the AMA Awards Banquet held at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, California. Motocross racer Bob Hennah and Yamaha mechanic Keith McCarty (In top hats) invited nearly everyone in the room (their sponsors) to join them on stage where they presented each other with their own No. 1 plates. Hannah must have said or done something funny since nearly the whole delegation looks to be having a laugh. Emcee Larry Huffman stands alongside Hannah with his hand on Hannah’s arm. It was a very good year for Hannah. At the banquet he collected awards for being AMA 250 Motocross National Champ, AMA Supercross Champ, Trans-AMA Champ and AMA Professional Athlete of the Year. McCarty also received the MX Tuner of the Year Award.
