OMG Grilla Yamaha Racing’s Ryan Vickers was unbeatable at the Brands Hatch round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship, July 20-21. Vickers won all three SBK races over the weekend. The win in Saturday’s lone Superbike race was a career first for Vickers.
“There were a few nerves going into the last race when it’s on the line for the triple and you’re riding so well,” said Vickers. “So, starting that last race, I was fully focused. I just had to get a good start and I did again. I genuinely don’t think I missed an apex that [last] race, so I’m extremely happy with that. I just rode to the limit.
“The team worked really hard; they gave me great information on the pit board as well, so that made life a lot easier,” Vickers said. “Thanks to the OMG Grilla Yamaha Racing Team, they’ve given me a fantastic bike this weekend.”
Reigning champ Tommy Bridewell, on the Honda Racing UK machine, kept Vickers on his toes in the first two races; he placed second both times. In race three, Bridewell was fourth.
Bridewell, however, stretched out his lead in the championship standings over Glenn Irwin (Hager PBM Ducati), 217-198. Christian Iddon (Ducati), who was second in race three, is third in the championship with 193 points.CN
