Tommy Bridewell, Rory Skinner and Christian Iddon shared victories, June 15-16, at the Knockhill round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship.
Bridewell delivered a Knockhill masterclass in the opening race to become the fifth different race winner of the season. The reigning champion celebrated his first victory with Honda Racing UK. Skinner and Andrew Irwin completed the podium, making it 10 different riders who had scored top-three finishes in 2024.
Rory Skinner celebrates his first career BSB win in race two at Knockhill.
At one point in the race, brothers Glenn and Andrew Irwin were battling for podium positions until Glenn’s Ducati started smoking and was shown the black/orange flag. Unfortunately, Glenn continued to circulate before pulling into the pits and was penalized four points, and he would start day two’s race from the back of the grid.
Skinner gave the Scottish home crowd something to celebrate by claiming his first Bennetts British Superbike Championship race win in race two on Sunday before Iddon fought back with a victory in red-flagged race three to become the seventh different race winner in 2024.
“It [his first win] hasn’t really sunk in yet,” Skinner said. “I had been strong in all conditions this weekend, and it is nice to finally get one in the bag, and now we want to keep the momentum going.”
Iddon said, “I tried to maintain the pace, but as the track started to dry, it became more difficult, and I had a few moments. I was really worried as I knew I was losing time from my best lap time on my dash, but I knew from my pit board that I still had a bit of a gap. I was trying to manage it and then the red flags came out, and it caught me off guard.”
The weekend produced three different race winners from three different teams and manufacturers as the battle for the 2024 title continues to intensify.
Bridewell now stands at the top of the championship leaderboard with 141 points, followed by Glenn Irwin, who slipped a spot, with 130 and Danny Kent with 125. CN
