Cody Webb topped the results at the 2024 Grinding Stone Hard Enduro in Page, Arizona, March 23-24. This was the second AMA U.S. Hard Enduro win in two races so far this season for the FactoryOne Sherco rider. FMF KTM Factory Racing-backed Trystan Hart led through the halfway point of the two-hour main event but a few crashes and bike damage allowed Webb to take the lead and win. Rockstars Husqvarna’s Ryder LeBlond also led the main event briefly but ultimately finished third.

The fourth annual Grinding Stone Hard Enduro, which is organized by Jim Flynn and the Rockstar Riding Club, continues to gain momentum due to the spectacular terrain and challenging course. This year included a total of three races, starting with a Saturday morning qualifier on an approximately 10-mile-long course. The riders had up to four hours to complete two laps, and Hart set the best time of one hour and seven minutes to top Will Riordan (GasGas) and Cooper Abbott (Sherco). The top 150 overall finishers of the nearly 250 riders moved on to round two, which took place on Sunday morning.
The promoters organized a head-to-head EnduroCross-type demonstration event in downtown Page on Saturday afternoon that proved to be very entertaining for the hard-core race fans and locals. The top 32 riders from the Saturday qualifier competed, and the final came down to an all-Sherco affair, with Webb topping Cooper Abbott.
Race two had more difficult sections added to the course and the riders had two hours to complete the loop. Hart again came out on top with Webb and Riordan close behind. It took the top riders at just over 32 minutes to finish and the top 25 riders moved on to the main event, which used a shorter but far more difficult course.
The top 25 riders took off together to complete as many laps as possible in the two-hour time limit. Hart took the early lead and opened a small gap but Webb and LeBlond kept things close enough to pounce on any mistakes by Hart. Some rain and hail added to the challenge and Webb later said it affected his confidence in taking on the large rocky hillclimbs. All the top riders had crashes at some point during the race, and Hart had a pretty big one that bent up his bike a just past the halfway point. This allowed LeBlond to briefly take the lead before Webb passed both riders to take over at the front. Hart kept it very close but then missed making a difficult ledge at the top of the Eggs Over Easy hillclimb and that allowed Webb to open a small gap.
Webb slowly pulled away to win, completing eight laps in a total time of two hours, 12 minutes, and 26 seconds. Hart was nearly two minutes behind at the finish, and LeBlond was nearly five minutes back to round out the podium.
“That was so gnarly!” Webb said at the finish. “From the weather to the pace to the track, the whole thing was rough. I am so stoked to take back-to-back wins to extend my points lead a little. The track was so sketchy, and it seemed like it was eating up riders today. I was able to come away relatively unscathed outside of bending my bars a little, but not like some of the guys today. I rode patiently even though the pace was high from the start. I was able to pick the right lines, and I used a bunch of my trials skills to navigate the course. I am so pumped for the team.”
Riordan was the only other rider to complete eight laps, and he was nearly 17 minutes behind the winner. James Flynn rounded out the top five on his IRC Development Team Beta.
Husqvarna’s Colton Haaker finished sixth ahead of Sherco rider Branden Petrie. Beta’s Daniel Lewis finished eighth. Abbott finished ninth on his Sherco and Quinn Wentzel rounded out the top 10 on a Rieju.
Hallie Marks topped the Women’s Pro race, which ended with Saturday’s race two. She rode her Sherco to victory ahead of Bailey Lerwill on a GasGas. They were the only two finishers in the Women’s class on Saturday’s race two. Addy Albrecht was credited with third in the Women’s class due to her third-place finish in Saturday’s race one.CN
