When the flag dropped, it was Ian Potter (Beta) with the holeshot, followed by Owen Barnes (Husqvarna) and Kenito Held (Suzuki). A couple of turns later, Held put his Suzuki into second place as they went into the woods to start lap two. The track was approximately six miles long, with a combination of tight trails, hillclimbs and moto.
The next time around, Held was out in front, followed by Barnes. Potter suffered a get-off, which ended his day early.
Kyle Grenewicz (Yamaha) and Matt Davis (Yamaha) were now battling for third, but behind them was McDonal, who had gotten off to a bad start and was coming up fast.
Although Held led the first eight laps, McDonal would eventually make the pass on the leader two laps from the end.
Held didn’t give up and continued to give McDonal a chase to the checkered flag. Just a few seconds separated them at the finish line.
