Round 11 of the AMA Arenacross took place at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida, on Friday, March 1, the day before the Daytona Supercross. A stacked field of rider showed up to compete on the sandy and rutted surface inside the Ocean Center. Kyle Peters and Ryan Breece are the two heavyweights battling for the title, but neither rider scored a win. Instead, Izaih Clark and Crockett Myers split wins, with Clark taking the overall win.
Race one saw Breece lead early on, while Peters struggled to get to the front. Breece held the top spot for the first seven laps before connecting with a Tuff Block and crashing off the side of the track. This costly mistake dropped him to fourth, while Michael Hicks capitalized and slipped through to the lead. Hicks looked to be running away with the win until he bobbled in the same rhythm lane, which allowed Clark to close. In an exciting last-lap battle, Clark cut off Hicks on the start straight, which forced Hicks onto the ground and let Clark take the opening win. Marshal Weltin and Breece rounded out the podium.
Race two put the front-runners on the back row and flipped the race-one finish order. Husqvarna-mounted Myers grabbed the holeshot and kept things under control for the entire race, earning him his first-ever main-event victory.
Behind Myers, Chase Marquier held a solid second, with Justin Rodbell jumping into third in the final laps. Race-one winner Clark crossed just off the podium in fourth. Both Breece and Peters struggled in race two, finishing sixth and 10th, respectively.
Clark was credited with the overall win by going 1-4 over Breece’s 3-6 and Marquier’s 8-2. Peters’ 5-10 put him outside the top five but he still leads the points by three over Breece. CN
