Here MC, on a Chaparral Yamaha YZ250, Battles Fellow Yamaha Rider Doug Henry on the Yamaha YZ400F in Daytona Supercross
In this week’s Throwback we travel back 26 years ago to March of 1998 and that year’s Daytona Supercross. In front of a packed house Jeremy McGrath (No. 2), on his Chaparral Motorsports Yamaha YZ250, battles fellow Yamaha rider Doug Henry, who was racing a factory Yamaha YZ400F. So two-stroke versus four-stroke and in this case it was the two-stroke winning the battle. McGrath raced to victory. It marked a major milestone in AMA Supercross history with McGrath reaching his 50-career AMA Supercross victory. McGrath, of course, went on to win 72 AMA Supercross races. Only two other riders in the history of the series reached the 50-win plateau – James Stewart and Eli Tomac. One other fun thing about this Kinney Jones photo is the flagman taking advantage of his excellent vantage point to snap a picture of the McGrath/Henry battle. Supercross fans will be back in Daytona this Saturday for the 54th annual DAYTONA Supercross.
