Each bike is powered by a new 895cc parallel-twin (yes, even the F 800 GS) that was first seen in the F 900 R and F 900 XR roadsters a couple of years ago but with varying power outputs.
The more premium F 900 GS and GS Adventure will see 105 hp at 8,500 rpm and 69 lb-ft of torque at 6,750 rpm, which represents a 10 hp increase but 1 lb-ft decrease compared to the outgoing 853cc motor inside the GS 850/Adventure range.
The F 800 GS will come to market with a claimed 87 hp at 6,750 rpm and 67 lb-ft at 6,750 rpm. We should stress, however, these figures are for the European models as we’ve not got official word from BMW USA about the bikes we’re going to get, as well as price and availability.
Each bike uses the same bridge-type steel chassis that uses the engine as a stressed member. The styling across the board has certainly been enhanced with more of a rally look for the GS and GS Adventure, while the F 800 GS retains its urban street look due to its cast wheels, and skinnier 41mm fork, but it does join the bigger brothers in getting the 6.5-inch TFT screen heated grips and LED headlight. Colors for the F 800 GS include Light White, Racing Blue for the Sport version, and a Triple Black model.
As you pick these up from the dealer, standard fitment is the Rain and Road ECU modes and dynamic traction control. Like pretty much any mid-large capacity BMW you can go for the optional Riding Modes Pro, which gives Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) and engine drag torque on all three models. On the F 900 GS and GS Adventure, there’s also the Dynamic, Enduro and Enduro Pro riding modes you can unlock at the dealer that gives you access to things like variable traction control.
The F 900 GS comes in for the biggest change with a claimed 31 pound lopped off compared to the F 850 GS for a claimed curb weight of 482 lb.
Part of this comes via the new LED light system (-1.3 lb), a 3.8 gallon plastic gas tank (-9.9 lb) and an Akrapovic muffler (-3.7 lb), and a redesigned rear end (-5.3 lb) that houses the luggage carriers.
New ergonomics include redesigned footpegs, gas tank shape, and rear brake lever, and there are inverted Showa 43mm forks and shock shock that give 9.1 and 8.5 inches of front and rear wheel travel, respectively.
If that’s not good enough, you can get the Enduro Pro package that adds 45 mm titanium nitirde-coated forks and a ZF Sachs shock, raised handlebars and a wear-resistant M Endurance chain.
The F 900 GS will come in standard Blackstorm metallic, São Paulo yellow, or GS Trophy in Light White solid/Racing Blue Metallic.
The F 900 GS Adventure gets all that but the gas tank is a metallic 6.1 gallon number, and the Showa suspension can be upgraded to the BMW Dynamic Electronic Suspension Adjustment system.
We’ll have more on the new BMW F 900 GS/Adventure and F 800 GS when the U.S-specific information comes to hand.
