Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Ricky Carmichael Nailed Down His First Unadilla Victory that Weekend
In this week’s episode of Throwback Thursday, we wind back the clock 25 years, to 1998 and the AMA/Mazda Trucks 125cc Motocross National Championship round at Unadilla Valley Sports Center in New Berlin, New York. Photographer Karl Ockert wonderfully captured the start of one of the 125cc Motos with Kawasaki riders Casey Johnson (No. 20) and Ricky Carmichael (No. 1) getting great jumps out of the gate. Carmichael would go on to score a 2-1 to win the overall. It marked RC’s first win at the legendary Upstate New York track. “It feels pretty good to finally win Unadilla,” Carmichael said. “This is a really gnarly track. The main thing today was to get a good start and try to stay on two wheels.” Robbie Reynard (No. 21) took second with a (1-3) and John Dowd (No. 9) rounded out the podium finishers with a (3-2). Pictured in this shot are Nick Wey (No. 67), Scott Sheak (No. 14), Mike Brown (No. 100), Johnson (No. 20), Carmichael (No.1), Reynard (No. 21), Brock Sellards (No. 36), Casey Lytle (No. 33), Nathan Ramsey (No. 35) and Dowd (No. 9).
