A couple of years after they teased the world with the Lucky Explorer 9.5 Concept range, MV Agusta has finally released details of the production version in the new LXP Orioli.
If the name sounds familiar, it should. The motorcycle is a tribute to Edi Orioli, the legendary Italian who won the Paris-Dakar four times, winning the 1990 edition on the Cagiva Elefant (sic) that was under the custodian of former MV Agusta proprietors, the Castiglioni brothers.
The LXP Orioli will be limited to 500 editions and signed by Orioli himself before leaving the factory. The owners also get a kit that includes the bike’s certificate of authenticity, weather cover, a homologated titanium Termignoni exhaust with a carbon fiber end cap and heat shield.
The Orioli is powered by an all-new 931cc inline triple, counter-rotating crank, double overhead cams with diamond-like coating (DLC), and compression listed at 13.4:1. MV Agusta claims 124 hp at 10,000rpm, with torque at 75 lb-ft. A handy 85 percent of that is available from 3000 rpm.
There’s a six-axis IMU, five-level (road) and two-level (dirt) lean angle sensitive traction control, Cornering ABS, variable engine braking, backlit switches, a seven inch TFT dash, three rider modes and a custom Rider mode for the throttle response.
There’s also a GPS immobilizer, cruise control, Bluetooth and Wifi connectivity that works in conjunction with the MV Ride app.
Housing the motor is a steel alloy perimeter frame, tubular steel subframe, and fully-adjustable Sachs 48mm front and rear suspension that gives 8.3 and 8.7-in. wheel travel, respectively—manually operated, rather than the electronically-adjusted we’ve come to expect in recent years for high-end ADV bikes.
Brembo has fitted their Stylema four-piston brake calipers biting twin 320mm discs up front with a twin-piston caliper clamping a 265mm disc at the back.
The Orioli runs on tubeless Takasago Excel rims measuring 21-in. up front and 18-in. at the rear, with Bridgestone providing its Battlax Adventurecross AX41s as the OEM tire.
MV’s also thrown in crash bars, auxiliary lighting, an aluminum sump guard, and 39L/32L aluminum side cases as standard fitment.
