Retired Pro Motocrosser, Jeff Alessi, Passes
Cycle News Staff | October 10, 2023
Jeff Alessi, the younger brother of former factory KTM and Suzuki motocross rider Mike Alessi, passed away at the age of 34 on October 2. The exact circumstances of his death are not clear, and rumors remain unverified by the family. He lived in Hesperia, California.
Jeff Alessi, who famously wore the number 801 (and Mike, 800), made a name for himself in the amateur ranks, along with his brother and turned pro in 2005. His specialty was supercross, but he excelled as an outdoor motocrosser, as well.
Unfortunately, Jeff suffered a major setback in his racing career when he sustained injuries to both his feet, which ultimately led to his premature departure from racing full-time. Jeff retired from professional racing in 2012 but raced momentarily again in 2016 before calling it quits for good.
After racing, Jeff focused his attention as a trainer and riding coach.
Our condolences to Jeff’s father, Tony, his brother, Mike, and the entire Alessi family. CN
