Riders Endured Freezing February Temperatures at Fulton County Stadium
In this week’s Throwback we wind back the clock 33 years to February of 1990 and the Atlanta Supercross held in the outdoor venue Fulton County Stadium. Riders and 43,100 fans shivered in temperatures that by the evening program had dropped into the low 30s. This photo shows the start of the first Heat race of the night. From left to right are Kurtis Barron (No. 207), Dennis Hawthorne (No. 32), Jason Buttle (No. 76), Jeff Stanton (No. 1), Mike LaRocco (No. 10), Doug Dubach (No. 7), Rick Johnson (No. 13), John Rickel (No. 595) and others. Johnson went on to win the Heat over Stanton and LaRocco. Later that night Jeff Ward took the victory by passing Guy Cooper on the final lap.
