Daxton Bennick was officially awarded the Nicky Hayden AMA Motocross Horizon Award following the Monster Energy AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch, August 1-5. The Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha Team rider swept the Open Pro Sport division with 1-1-1 finishes, taking the title in stride.
Bennick also finished second in the 250 Pro Sport class with 7-2-6 results. Bennick will make his official professional debut next weekend at the Unadilla round of the Pro Motocross Championship.
The Horizon Award recognizes the top-performing amateur racer on the cusp of graduating into the professional ranks. The award was first handed out in 1997 and given to Nick Wey, whose son, Vincent, won the Mini Sr. 2 (12-15) Champion this year.
“It’s a good way to end my amateur career winning Open Pro Sport and the Horizon Award,” said Bennick. “I’m excited to go racing next weekend in Unadilla.”
The last 10 riders to take the awards are Caden Braswell, Levi Kitchen, Stilez Robertson, Jalek Swoll, Derek Drake, Justin Cooper, Chase Sexton, Benny Bloss, RJ Hampshire and Matt Bisceglia. CN
