The Motul FIM Superbike World Championship will be back at the iconic Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto for the 12th and final round of the 2023 season, on October 27-29. The Prometeon Spanish Round will replace the previously scheduled curtain-closer in Argentina.
The presence of Spain in WorldSBK began at Jerez in 1990 with the opening round of that season—the Championship returned to the Andalusian venue on several occasions—in the mid-2010s and more recently from 2019 to 2021. The Spanish venue has hosted 21 WorldSBK races in its history, with the latest held in September 2021.
With this latest update, the WorldSBK and WorldSSP seasons will conclude their respective campaigns at Jerez at the end of October. The WorldSSP300 season will finish as planned with the Pirelli Portuguese Round at Portimao from September 29 to October 1.

Arturo Bernal, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports Junta of Andalusia said: “Our partnership with the FIM Superbike World Championship is long and lasting. We are happy to be able to announce this final event, which will surely attract many racing fans to the Circuito de Jerez. There is no better place than Andalusia to host this race. Our region is a guarantee of success in organising major sporting events. I want to thank the strong collaboration between the Junta de Andalucía, the Jerez City Council, and Dorna to give even more relevance to a city that is already known throughout the world for its link to motorsports.”
María José García Pelayo, the Mayor of Jerez de la Frontera, commented: “It represents a great opportunity for Jerez and for the Circuit to see the return of WorldSBK. Jerez is once again positioning itself as a world motorcycling reference, as an emblematic circuit for riders, teams, and fans. A circuit that, with the return of WorldSBK, begins a new period of momentum. Hosting the round initially planned in Argentina at Jerez is a milestone, thanks to the collaboration of the City Council, the Junta de Andalusia, and Dorna. All three parties are aware that Jerez is an icon for world motorcycling, and that all the major motor racing events must go through the Circuito de Jerez.”
WorldSBK Executive Director, Gregorio Lavilla, added: “We are delighted to bring the WorldSBK championship back to its roots at the legendary Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto for the final round of the 2023 season. Jerez holds a special place in the history of our sport, and it is only fitting that we conclude this remarkable season at a venue with such rich heritage. We look forward to witnessing the fierce competition and celebrating the sport’s legacy with the passionate fans in Andalusia.”
UPDATE FROM JULY 2023
WorldSBK’s planned visit to Argentina has been cancelled for 2023; a new venue will be announced to host the final round of the season.

The San Juan Villicum circuit had been scheduled to host Round 12 but the event in Argentina has been cancelled; a new location for the final round is to be confirmed.
The Argentinean Round, the curtain closer of the 2023 Motul FIM Superbike World Championship, which was scheduled to take place on October 13-15 at the Circuito San Juan Villicum, has been cancelled. This decision is due to the intense electoral calendar faced by the country, which has led to a complex situation affecting the daily lives of people, provinces, and businesses.
Considering the proximity of upcoming national and provincial elections, Dorna WSBK Organization (DWO), Grupo OSD, and the San Juan government have chosen to suspend the event at the San Juan Villicum circuit.
Furthermore, the round was scheduled on the eve of a government transition in the province, and it has been decided to wait and keep the schedule of events open for the new administration, showing respect for the political context and allowing proper planning for events of the magnitude of WorldSBK.
The FIM and Dorna WSBK Organization will soon announce a new venue that will host the final round of the 2023 Motul FIM Superbike World Championship season.

With changes in comparison to years gone by and a return to a traditional starting point, the provisional 2023 World Superbike calendar promises intense action from the start
While the 2022 Motul FIM Superbike World Championship is coming to a close, the 2023 season is taking shape and the calendar has been released, revealing the iconic destinations and historic venues where WorldSBK will continue to break records. With a return to Australia as the season-opener and a back-to-back at the start of the year with Indonesia, a new date for the Catalunya and Aragon Rounds and a 12th round to be announced (TBA), it’s a diverse calendar as WorldSBK readies for next year.
For the first time since 2020, WorldSBK’s season starts at what is the traditional starting point. Phillip Island and Australia will lift the curtain on the 12-round season February 24-26, and, a week later, the Indonesian Round at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit follows, finding a new slot in the first weekend of March. After six weeks of rest, the Championship is back on European soil with the Dutch Round at the TT Circuit Assen April 21-23, where WorldSSP300 will take to the track for the first time in 2023.
Round four sees a second change in the calendar order in comparison to 2022, with the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya hosting the Catalunya round May 5-7. The next round comes from the Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli” for the Emilia-Romagna Round on the Adriatic Coast June 2-4, while marking the halfway point of 2023, the UK Round at Donington Park will close out June action and kickstart July racing from June 30-July 2.
Entering the second half of 2023, the Czech Round at the Autodrom Most returns for a third consecutive season, with the final weekend of July 28-30. With August giving way to the summer break, action resumes with the French Round at Magny-Cours September 8-10, as the circuit gets ready to celebrate 20 years of being on the WorldSBK calendar without interruption. Having been the curtain-raiser for the past two years, MotorLand Aragon and the Aragon Round host round nine in late September, from the 22-24 , while the second back-to-back of the year is completed with the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal from the September 29 to October 1. The Circuito San Juan Villicum welcomes the Argentinean Round for a fifth time in World Superbike history on the October 13-15 weekend, and will be the season finale, meaning a new circuit, country and continent will close the season. A 12th round with dates is to be announced (TBA).
