Young Rode His Beta to Third and Second at the Doubleheader Weekend
In this week’s Throwback we set the Wayback Machine to May of 1987 and that year’s AMA/NATC National Championship Observed Trials Series rounds one and two held in Globe, Arizona. This photo shows Ryan Young negotiating steep boulders on the course aboard his Beta. Young had a strong outing in Arizona that weekend. In Saturday’s round one he finished third behind 1979 Trails World Champion Bernie Schreiber and Swedish National Champ Jonny Andersson. In Sunday’s round two Young was runner up to Schreiber. Starting the next year Young would go on a record-breaking streak of six consecutive AMA/NATC Championships (1988 – 1993) to cement his name as one of the all-time greats in American Observed Trials history.
