Poway, CA (June 12, 2023) – Road 2 Recovery (R2R) is thrilled to unveil the lineup of guest speakers and their captivating topics for the next two months of the Monthly Mental Health Zoom Series, “Breaking the Stigma,” Powered by On Track School. On June 13th at 4 pm PST, Brian Deegan will share his insights on setting realistic expectations and paying attention to warning signs. Then, on July 19th at 5 pm PST, Allie Spurgeon will discuss the power of choosing one’s experience and putting a positive spin on negative thinking. This series aims to promote mental well-being, provide valuable insights, and foster open conversations within the racing community and beyond.

Brian Deegan, a professional racer, father of three, and passionate mental health advocate, will delve into the crucial subject of parenting and mental health. Brian’s wealth of experience in racing, both during and after his career, provides a unique perspective on setting realistic expectations. Join us as he shares invaluable insights on identifying warning signs and navigating mental health challenges within the racing community. When asked about his passion for discussing this topic, Brian expressed, “I think the topic we should discuss is parenting and mental health. Not only within racing but also after racing. We will talk about setting realistic expectations.”
Allie Spurgeon, an inspirational figure who has triumphed over head injuries, chronic illness, and the pressures of racing, will guide participants on a transformative journey. Allie will illustrate the power of choice and offer pivotal insights on how we can shape our experiences. Join us as Allie shares her personal journey and imparts wisdom on personal growth, both as individuals and as racers. From head injuries to chronic illness to the pressures of racing and dealing with difficult circumstances, we get to choose how we experience our lives. She said, “I’m excited to share my own experience and offer insights on how we can grow as people and as racers!”
The R2R Monthly Support Zoom – Breaking the Stigma, is a moto community-focused support group for mental health powered by On Track School. This is a free and open group for everyone to join. Attendees can hear first-hand from top-performing athletes and professionals about their personal experiences with mental health. Every meeting offers something different, as each story and topic is unique to that guest speaker. After the discussion ends, the meeting with open to Q & A for the guest speaker or one of the licensed therapists running the meeting. Attendees can choose to attend and participate with their video on or anonymously via text. After each session, licensed professionals will provide topic-specific takeaways and resources to support positive change and needs within the group.

Access to the meeting will open promptly at the designated start time. After a quick introduction to the program and topic, our Guest Speaker will start. The live meeting will be available for all to join anytime during the scheduled period. If you can’t make it right at the start time, don’t let that stop you from entering later. Attendees have the option to join anonymously online, by phone, or the chat features for this meeting. Licensed and trained therapists and counselors will facilitate every discussion. As a reminder, the meetings are free for anyone to attend. Participation and involvement with the facilitators and guest speakers regarding mental health are encouraged but not required to join.
