2023 Isle of Man TT Race Preview
The Honda Racing UK team returns to the circuit with which its history is intertwined for this year’s prestigious Isle of Man TT races. Since Honda’s first visit to the small island in the Irish Sea in 1959, it has achieved a remarkable 191 victories and counting, making it the most successful motorcycle manufacturer to have ever raced the TT.
Fresh from three top-six finishes at this year’s North West 200 races, John McGuinness MBE heads to the race with which he is synonymous in superb form and well-prepared after a structured testing program and competitive outings in the British Superstock series. A revised format also means he will compete in four races for the Honda Racing UK team aboard the two respective Superbike and Superstock CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SPs. More races to potentially add to his remarkable record of 23 wins and 47 podiums at the famous ‘Mountain Course’.
Sadly, after injuring himself in a crash during the opening Superstock race at the North West, Nathan Harrison will not compete at this year’s event as he continues his recovery back to full fitness.
The team kickstart their TT campaign with a week of practice (29 May – 2 Jun) before the racing begins in earnest with the first race for the team, the RST Superbike Race, scheduled for Sunday 4th June.
#3 John McGuinness MBE: I parked up on the Isle of Man the other night, and that feeling of heading over on the ferry and driving into the paddock still gives me that buzz. We make our own little village with the motorhomes. Practice starts on Monday so there’s a bit of time to think about it and get into the swing of that Manx way of life. I’m looking forward to it, it’s my 105th TT coming up. I keep repeating myself but the bike is good, the team is good and everyone is in a decent place. I’ve ordered the sunshine for two weeks and if we get that it should be good racing. Everybody is excited for it, as am I. Let’s get stuck into the way of the TT, get some good safe riding done and I’m hoping for some good results, a podium would be sweet!
Shoutout to Nathan, bless him, get well soon.
