Bell Six Days McQueen Custom 500 Helmet

Cycle News Staff | March 15, 2023

In 1964, Steve McQueen competed with Team USA in the International Six Days Trial (now called the International Six Days Enduro). During that event, he wore a blue Bell 500 TX helmet with red and white stripes. In partnership with the McQueen Estate, Bell is reintroducing the iconic graphic on its Custom 500 three-quarter helmet.

Officially licensed in partnership with the Steve McQueen Estate, this is the first Bell and McQueen collaboration.

“My Dad loved riding motorcycles more than anything,” said Chad, Steve McQueen’s son. “Much of my childhood memories with my dad revolve around motorcycles. We loved going on two-wheeled adventures together, and I’m thrilled to see this helmet come back to life, considering my dad and I always wore Bell helmets.”

The Custom 500 Six Day McQueen helmet will come with Bell’s signature 510 long visor.

“Steve” is written in a playful font on the back of the helmet adding a unique touch along with a period-correct 510 visor. The helmet will also come with a special 278 decal featuring Steve McQueen’s name and the 1964 ISDT details.

Just like McQueen’s original International Six Days Trial helmet, the Custom 500 will feature ‘Steve’ written on the back of the helmet.

A special keychain featuring McQueen’s name will also come with the helmet, which will be shipped in a black leather helmet bag.

The Custom 500 has a quilted interior wrapped in a fiberglass-composite shell and a padded chin strap. The shell also includes five snaps for adding a faceshield or visor. MSRP is listed at $144.95-$204.95
