Busto’s evening didn’t get off to a great start with maximum scores in the first and last sections of the opening lap, ending lap one a full four marks off the leader’s pace. However, a solid second lap elevated the 25-year-old Spanish star into second and earned an all-important place in the three-man final where he outdueled defending champ Repsol Honda’s Toni Bou.
“I’m so happy about how my night has ended,” Busto said. “I didn’t make the best of starts today. I made a couple of mistakes on lap one and two, but for the final I started more concentrated, just thinking about riding how I know I can and not worrying about the time to complete the sections. I went out and just felt great on the bike. I can’t be happier to give GasGas a win.”
“It was a tough night,” Toni Bou said. “But we take away the positive that I was able to get on the podium with second place and score points for the championship. We won the first and the second round; it’s too bad I had problems in the final round on the second and fourth sectors. We have picked up points and that is important for the championship; our objective at the next round in Pamplona will be to maintain the lead.”
Third on the night went to Adam Raga (TRRS).
Despite finishing second to Busto, Bou still leads the championship by five points over Busto, 38-33. Bou’s teammate Gabriel Marcelli, fourth in Austria, is third with 24 points. CN
The next stop on the FIM X-Trial World Championship tour is X-Trial Pamplona in the Navarra Arena, Spain, on March 25.
