Jean-Michel Bayle Charged to the Front for the Win
In this week’s Throwback we travel back 31 years to March of 1992 and to Charlotte (NC) Memorial Stadium. It was one of the oldest stadiums the AMA Supercross Series ever visited having opened in 1936. This photo shows riders charging into the first turn of the premier class main event. Leading is Jeff Ward (No. 6) with the perfect line going into the turn. Also up front are Jeff Stanton (No. 2), Jeff Matiasevich (No. 9), Larry Ward (No. 10) and Jeff Emig (No. 8). Apparently, it was good night for Jeffs and starts! Look back on the right and you see Jean-Michael Bayle on his No. 1 Honda. The Frenchman Bayle made up for the bad start and charged to the front and then held off Stanton to win the race. It marked the first win of the season for Bayle. While Bayle won the battle that night in Charlotte, it was Stanton who went on to win the championship that year.
