Three of the All-Time Best AMA 250 Grand Prix Riders Shared the Podium at Daytona International Speedway
In this week’s Throwback we dial the Wayback Machine to March of 1995, location Daytona International Speedway. At Bike Week ’95 it was Rich Oliver (center) coming through to score victory over two other all-time leading AMA 250 Grand Prix riders, Chuck Sorensen (left) who finished runner up and third-place finisher Randy Renfrow (right). Oliver and Sorensen were teammates on the Yamaha-backed Team Oliver Yamaha. Renfrow raced for Sakurai Honda. Oliver was coming off his first AMA national championship in ’94 and said after the race he feared there might be a lull coming into the ’95 season, but the Californian need not worry as he pulled away to 32.247-second margin of victory. Oliver would go on that season to defend his title and win the 1995 AMA 250 Grand Prix Championship.
