Sons of Speed Racing Returns
Cycle News Staff | January 11, 2023
Sons of Speed, the vintage racing series, starts March 4, 2023 at New Smyrna Speedway.
The following is a press release from Sons of Speed…
Sons of Speed launched into the industry in 2017 and has not slowed down since. Born out of Billy Lane from Choppers Inc. and his love of vintage motorcycle culture, Sons of Speed has grown to be one of the major events in the racing world. The race series takes inspiration from the early 20th century board track racing that showcases pre-1950 V-twin American motors and stripped-down bikes from some of the industry’s biggest names. Racers compete on steeply banked tracks hitting speeds up to 80 mph. And did we mention no brakes?
What started off with a dozen racers has now grown to almost 50 regulars in the series. You will recognize such notable names like eBay Jake, Jody Perewitz, Michael Lange, Shelly Rossmeyer, Tom Banks, “Fast Freddy” Bollwage and Joe Orsini alongside many more racers flying in to compete from around the world, including South America and Japan. Come check out some real works of art with bikes rarely seen in public and a talented group of racers that want nothing more than to put on a great show and keep the spirit and tradition of this race series alive for years to come. In 2023, Lane is also taking the Sons of Speed races to Tennessee and back to Florida in the end of the year.
“We are so fired up to be returning to New Smyrna Speedway in Florida this March. What a way to kick off the season at the track where this all started!” said Lane, founder of Sons of Speed.
“This is going to be a great year for Sons of Speed. Northern Tool and Equipment have come on as our presenting sponsor. With support from Northern and our other long-time sponsors, we can continue to grow our Sons of Speed family,” said Andy George, operations director for Sons of Speed.
