In this week’s Throwback we wind back the clock to March of 1966 and the Ascot 100-Lap TT race held at Ascot Park in Gardena, California. This photo shows a Semi qualifying race with Guy Louis, on his Royal Enfield, leading Mert Lawwill and the rest of the field in a Semi qualifying race. Lawwill went on to win this race over Sid Payne (No. 32) and Louis. The Ascot 100-Lap TT was arguably the most important race during the 1960s outside of AMA Grand Nationals. The race drew huge crowds and was televised for years by ABC’s Wide World of Sports. Eddie Mulder won the main event.
