Yvon DuHamel took victory over Jay Springsteen and Gary Nixon
In this week’s Throwback we dial back the wayback machine to 1992, the location, Daytona International Speedway, and that year’s BMW Battle of the Legends. The race that year pitted 10 racing legends against one another on identically prepared BMW R100R motorcycles in the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) portion of Bike Week. The race was run in two five-lap legs and when the results were tallied it was Canadian Yvon DuHamel coming through to take the victory over Jay Springsteen and Gary Nixon. In this shot you see Nixon (white plate No. 9) leading the way over “Springer” (black plate No. 9) with DuHamel (No. 17) in third. Also visible in the shot are Reg Pridmore (No. 163) and Don Castro (No. 11). The Legends race was a big hit with fans and was held for several years during Daytona Bike Week during the 1990s.
