German rider beat America’s Best that Day in Wisconsin
In this week’s Throwback we dial back the wayback machine 16 years to June of 2006 and the AMA Supermoto Championship round at USA International Raceway in Shawano, Wisconsin. In the second leg of the doubleheader, it was Germany’s Bernd Hiemer (No. 5) coming through to out battle America’s best Supermoto riders to win the race on his factory Red Bull KTM. Chasing Hiemer in this shot are Yamaha riders Mark Burkhart and Doug Henry (No. 19). It marked Hiemer’s AMA Supermoto debut. He went on that season to win the Supermoto World Championship. Hiemer battled Henry late in the second leg. On the final lap Henry, riding a factory Yamaha, made a bid to pass Hiemer’s KTM, but the two collided in a high-speed sweeping turn and Henry crashed. He picked up his motorcycle and finished sixth.
