A Memorable Day for Hale Who Won His First AMA Superbike and Supersport Nationals at the Fairplex
In this week Throwback Thursday, we dial back the clock 27 years to 1995 and the AMA Superbike Championship race held at the Pomona (Calif.) Fairplex. It was a milestone day for both Mike Hale and Honda. For Hale, who was racing in only his fifth-career Superbike race, it marked his first ever AMA Superbike victory. Earlier in the day he scored his first AMA Supersport win, making for an unbelievable breakthrough weekend for the Texan. It was good day for Honda too, marking their first victory in the AMA Superbike Championship in three years. It was also the inaugural series win for Honda’s RC45 Superbike. Finishing second and third at Pomona that day were Muzzy Kawasaki teammates Steve Crevier (right) and Pascal Picotte (left) – both Canadians by the way. If it looks like Picotte is have a little trouble with the trophy, he was racing with a broken collarbone he’d suffered just a couple of weeks earlier at Daytona. He aggravated the injury when he collided with a lapped rider during the Pomona race.
