One rider in this trio made it to the podium
In this week’s Throwback we travel back 33 to April of 1989 and the Lake Sugar Tree AMA Motocross National in Axton, Virginia. This photo shows a 250MX battle between Doug Dubach (No. 16 Yamaha), Jeff Frisz (No. 34 Kawasaki) and Johnny O’Mara (No. 20 Suzuki). It was the third 250MX National of the season and Dubach turned in a great performance that day, scoring a 4-3 for third overall. It marked his lone 250MX podium of the season. O’Mara looked to be on his way to a podium as well that day, after scoring third in the opening moto, but a crash in the second moto put him 10th and the ‘O’ Show ended up sixth overall. Frisz had a tough-luck weekend. After a decent first moto, the Floridian got caught up in a massive first-turn pileup at the start of the second moto. That ruined his day and he finished 17th overall. In case you were wondering, it was Jeff Stanton taking the 250 National win that day over Jeff Ward.
