It marked the third AMA Grand National Championship in a row for the Texan
In this week’s Throwback we dial back the clock 35 year to October of 1987 and the season-ending AMA Camel Pro Awards Banquet in Sacramento. This photo shows Bubba Shobert being presented his No. 1 plate and Camel Pro trophy for winning that year’s AMA Grand National Championship. Shobert scored the title in a tight championship chase over rival Scott Parker. It also marked three-straight national titles for Shobert. On the stage (from L to R) are banquet emcee J.B. Norris, Shobert’s Honda tuners Ray Plumb and Skip Eaken, Miss Camel Pro Galia Gomez, Shobert and R.J. Reynolds’ Curtis Gray.
