Decided by inches, one rider would make the national, the other watched from the sidelines
In this week’s Throwback we travel back 27 years to July of 1995 and the Oklahoma City Half-Mile AMA Grand National at the State Fair Speedway. This Dave Hoenig image captures Chris Carr (No. 4) and Larry Pegram (No. 72) locked in a tight battle during the second heat race of the night. Carr edged Pegram by a wheel length to finish second and move on to Main. Showing just how close the margins can be in flat track racing, Pegram missed out in this race making the main by mere inches. He then had a bad run his Semi due to a chunked tire finishing fifth causing him to miss the national all together. Carr finished fifth in the final that night, which was won by Scott Parker.
