This is a press release from Road 2 Recovery…
Encinitas, CA (July 7, 2022) – The Road 2 Recovery Foundation announces Scotty Cranmer as the July Guest Speaker for the Monthly Support Group Meeting- Breaking the Stigma. Join us Tuesday, July 12, 2022, starting at 4:30 PM PST, via Zoom to hear Scotty’s story and experience with this month’s mental health topic; Resiliency and Transition.
This is a free and anonymous zoom meeting open for everyone to join. Attendees have the opportunity to hear first-hand from top-performing athletes and professionals about their personal experiences with mental health. Each story is unique to that guest speaker but everyone addresses the need to prioritize mental health in our community and proves that we are a lot more alike than different.
Quote from Scotty- “The truth is that it’s hard accepting the reflection that I see in the mirror every day, and to see myself in a photo or a video is a constant reminder that I am not the “Cool and Confident” athlete that I once was. My Instagram has been a nightmare for me because this is where I present this “Uncool and Uncoordinated” version of myself to 500,000 people and that’s the reason why I never post on here”.
“But today I’m finally ready to change that. I know that I’m both the problem and the solution. It’s not the 500,000 people that follow me that don’t want to see the photos and videos of this amazing life that I’m still blessed to be living, it’s me. So today I’m accepting who I am and I’m going to be proud of myself and I’m going to challenge myself to post on Instagram again consistently. I’m ready to take the steps to be the person that I want to be and I’m going to share it with you all along the way.”
In this meeting, Scotty will discuss his own experiences with this month’s topic- Resiliency and Transition. His struggles through injuries and the toll it took on his mental health navigating the transition back in front of the camera. During the meeting participants will be provided resources and tools from our licensed and trained clinicians to support themself and our community that is currently struggling. Questions for Scotty or one of the licensed therapists running the meeting will follow and be open to all joining the Zoom call.
