The MXGP World Championship headed to Ernee, France for round 10 of the series. A huge storm created muddy conditions during Saturday’s qualifying races, which saw a number of the top riders sit out the motos entirely. Despite the early drama, things cleared up for Sunday’s Grand Prix. France’s own Tom Vialle took home the MX2 overall while Monster Energy Yamaha’s Jeremy Seewer claimed the MXGP victory.

The first race of the MXGP division saw a huge pileup off the start which claimed a handful of favorites including points leaders Tim Gajser (Team HRC) and Maxime Renaux (Monster Energy Yamaha). Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado was credited with the holeshot and began to lead the early laps. Jeremy Seewer stalked Prado for nearly the entire race and executed a pass with only a lap and a half remaining. Seewer went on to take the race win over Prado and Riley Racing’s Brent Van doninck. Gajser, meanwhile, had a disastrous moto with a number of mistakes and crashes. He crossed the line fifth.
Race two once again saw Prado at the front, taking his 11th holeshot of the season. Seewer started just behind Prado but was bumped out of the main line and dropped back to fifth almost right away. The two Yamahas of Seewer and Glenn Coldenhoff proceeded to make their way to the front as the duo pulled up behind Prado. Near the end of the race it was Coldenhoff who found a way through on Prado. Shortly after, Seewer bumped Prado out of second place where the two would finish. Gajser again faltered multiple times and despite a number of attacks he finished fourth. Coldenhoff took the moto win, his first since Latvia 2020, but it was Seewer who claimed the overall. Prado claimed second overall with Coldenhoff third.

MX2
The French fans came alive for their countryman, Tom Vialle. The Red Bull KTM rider started third but made his way to the lead after only a few laps. Monster Energy Yamaha’s Jago Geerts got off to a poor start but worked his way up through the field and into the second spot. He got within striking distance but then fell on one of the tricky off-cambers just before the finish line. This practically solidified the running order as Vialle took the race-one win over Geerts and Simon Langenfelder (Red Bull GasGas).
Vialle again grabbed the holeshot in race two. Yamaha’s Thibault Benistant ran just behind in second after a strong opening race and later took the lead from Vialle on the first lap. Geerts again got off to a mediocre start but made a number of passes in the first few sections of the track to move into third. The Yamaha rider later passed the points leader Vialle, who suffered a big mistake but retained third position. Up front though it was Benistant controlling the lead to the finish while Geerts and Vialle rounded out the podium. Vialle’s 3-1 scores earned him the overall ahead of Geerts and Benistant. CN
