Motorcycle racers once again took over Mammoth Mountain for the annual Monster Energy Mammoth Motocross. Racing takes place over two full weekends with vets, minis and big bikes all having their separate race days.
Trey Canard was the one to watch in Mammoth. The former supercross star who now works for American Honda, came out of retirement to line up with Honda’s amateur prospect Chance Hymas. Canard took the overall win with 2-1 finishes in the Open Pro Sport class over Hymas and Cole Martinez. He also went on to sweep the 450 Pro division ahead of Dare Demartile and again, Martinez.
Ryder Difrancesco managed to edge out Canard for the overall in the 250 Pro class, claiming a moto win with 1-4 scores. Canard’s 4-2 earned him second with Talon Hawkins third.
The Vet weekend was dominated by familiar names. Martinez took the win in 25-plus and also swapped wins with Josh Grant in 30 Pro.
Mark Tilley traded wins with Matt Barber in 40A, and Jeremy McGrath went untouched in 50A.
The young guns also put on an exciting show on the mountain. Casey Cochran swept the Schoolboy 1 class over Landin Pepperd and Jordan Torres, while Preston Boespflug, Enzo Temmerman and Parker Ross headlined the Schoolboy 2 division. Both Supermini classes went the way of KTM’s Jeremy Fappani. Vincent Wey and Max Shane also claimed wins in the Mini Senior divisions.
