World Observed Trials Champion Performs at U.S. Round of the ’97 Series
In this week’s Throwback we dial back the time machine 25 years to July of 1997 and the U.S. round of the World Observed Trials Championship, held that year in Donner Lake, California and the Donner Ski Park. Off-Road photographer extraordinaire Mark Kariya captured a stunning image of then defending World Champ Marc Colomer urging his works Montesa up a tricky section on the challenging course set up on a rugged Sierra Nevada Mountainside. Colomer was second in the standings at that point in the season, but the U.S. round was not a great outing for him. Colomer finished 3-5 in the two-day event and lost ground in the championship to series leader Dougie Lampkin who dominated the competition that weekend with a 1-1. Kariya wonderfully captured the beauty of Observed Trials where it’s man and machine against the most challenging terrain in all of motorcycling.
