In this week’s Throwback we travel back to 1985 and the Costa Mesa Speedway inside the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, California. Speedway was all the rage in Southern California during the mid-1980s as you can tell by the packed grandstands on hand ready to watch a Match Race between Bobby Schwartz and Kelly Moran. This race was part of the Coors Spring Classic. In this particular event it was the then defending national champ Moran taking the victory over Schwartz. Both Schwartz and Moran were two of the elite American Speedway riders of the 1980s.
