2022 South Hills Showdown Results
| May 3, 2022
The South Hills Showdown took place at the Billings Motorcycle Club in Montana, April 29-May 1, and was round two of the AMA IRC MotoClimb Super Series, Presented by Monster Energy. The event shared the weekend and venue with the AMA U.S. Hard Enduro Series, so there was double the action and twice as many athletes as usual from both disciplines in attendance.

It rained all day on Friday, making the hill a bit muddy, but the clear weather ended up making the traction nearly perfect. The day started off with 60 riders in the 450cc qualifier, with Austin Teyler taking the top spot by nearly 1.5 seconds. The hard-enduro prologue was staggered in between the MSS classes, which added a bunch of entertainment as the enduro athletes were finding ways to climb the steep hill on stock bikes.
The Open class took place at dusk, with 32 riders holding it wide open on a faster hill. Logan Mead held the fast time for a bit on his KTM 1290, then got bumped by Tyler Cardwell on his KTM 1190. Logan Cipala, the 2021 MSS Champion, then laid down a smoking-fast 8.585-second run on his Buell HCR 1190, winning the class by nearly three-quarters of a second.
In the 450 main, Cipala dominated the class yet again, as he pushed his way through the 32-rider bracket. Mead and Karson Lloyd rounded off the podium.
Cipala walked away from Billings with a perfect 50-point weekend, winning both classes and extending his points lead going into the Big Hill Jam in Yoncalla, Oregon, June 25-26.
