BMW has taken the covers off a special M 1000 RR in celebration of BMW Motorsport GmbH’s half-century of operation.
Dubbed the BMW M 1000 RR 50 Years M, this most super of superbikes comes with all the stuff the base M 1000 RR comes with that makes it legal for WorldSBK racing and a few tasty extras thrown in just because.
Available in two editions, the first being the base M 1000 RR for $32,495 MSRP, plus an extra $4500 for the 50 Years M Package, this is BMW putting its best superbike foot forward as it celebrates a true milestone for the company with the formation of BMW Motorsport GmbH starting BMW on the road to countless two and four-wheel race wins and titles.
Graced in stunning Sau Paulo Yellow color (alongside the traditional BMW Motorsport red, white and blue), the 50 Years M edition gets a host of carbon fiber goodies in the carbon front and rear fenders, upper fairing side panels, left and right carbon tank covers, a carbon chain guard and sprocket cover.
On the milled aluminum side, the 50 Years M gets billet aluminum engine protectors, folding brake and clutch levers, M rider’s rearsets, and a front brake lever guard.
However, the real performance riders out there will be pleased to see the fitment of a lighter silver anodized aluminum swingarm that looks straight off Scott Redding’s factory WorldSBK racer.
The M 1000 RR is already a beast of a bike thanks to the S 1000 RR-derived motor that pumps out a claimed 205 hp and 83 lb-ft of torque, seven riding modes, a pit-lane speed limiter, Dynamic Traction Control, wheelie, and slide control, Shift Assist Pro, and a lightweight lithium-ion battery. The M chassis kit also comes with a rear ride height adjuster and swingarm pivot adjuster.
BMW Motorrad North America will have these super superbikes for sale in the third quarter of this year but if you want one, contact a local BMW dealer, pronto.
