Honda Ace Scored the Overall AMA 250cc National Motocross Victory That Day with a 1-1
In this week’s Throwback we travel back in time 26 years to June of 1996 and the MX338 track in Southwick, Massachusetts. In this excellent Karl Ockert photo we see defending series champ Jeremy McGrath (No. 1) slicing through the sand and getting the holeshot on his factory Honda. Ryan Hughes (No. 5) is well positioned not far behind McGrath. Also visible in the photo are Patrick Barton (No. 66), Doug Henry (No. 15), Jimmy Button (No. 100), Jim Kapitan (No. 76) and Larry Ward (No. 6). MC went on to win the overall that day with a perfect 1-1. Jeff Emig took second (6-2) and Henry third (4-5). After this race McGrath had a fairly commanding lead in the series over Emig (291 – 249), but Emig came back to win the championship that season. (Karl Ockert photo)
