Crowd on Its Feet as the Big Twins Come to Life
In this week’s Throwback Thursday, we travel back 45 years to 1977 and the Middletown (NY) Half-Mile. The crowd at the Orange County Fairgrounds is on their feet as the green flag drops and motors come to life at the start of the AMA Grand National. From left to right you see riders Ted Davidson (No. 56Z), Ted Boody (No. 12), Steve Eklund (No. 11), Ed Ingram (No. 58A), Gary Scott (No. 5), Steve Freeman (No. 68), Hank Scott (No. 14), Mike Kidd (No. 72). On the second row you can see Mert Lawwill (in black open-face helmet) and Jay Springsteen (No. 1). It was Kidd coming through to win the 20-lap national over brothers Hank and Gary Scott.
