Repsol Honda Team rider Toni Bou is homing in on his 16th X-Trial Championship after winning again in Barcelona. He has won all four rounds run so far this season.
Bou finished four points clear of his nearest rival, fellow Spaniard Adam Raga of the TRRS Factory Team. The battle for the win was still up in the air after two of the three loops, but Bou had the better ride in the most challenging sections the final time through and captured the overall win, 12 points to 16.
“I’m very happy with the way the night went,” Bou said. “I did some incredible things, but I also made a big mistake in the final. Possibly, I went in a bit nervously, I was a little short in the first step and it was surprising to stay there. Fortunately, we reacted quickly because I knew that the next section was very important and complicated, and I knew that the trial would be won there. And that’s the way it turned out.
“Adam is in great form and is making it difficult for me.”
Italy’s Matteo Grattarola (Beta) finished on the podium, while Spain’s Jaime Busto (Vertigo) and Norway’s Sondre Haga (Beta) rounded out the top five.
Just one round is left in the championship, but it’s not until October. Bou leads Raga by 30 points, 87-57. Grattarola is third with 39 points. CN
